Regular Show - Skunked

The Regular Show episode"Skunked" just aired, so I thought I'd put this board up for you all to check out. This is the original version of "Skunked" I wrote and boarded (just the thumbnails-never cleaned it up). For some some reason, someone somewheres didn't like it, though it mirrored the "approved" outline (This happens more than you'd think where ideas get approved, then all of a sudden it's like, "Whoa whoa, where did this come from? You guys trying to pull something over on us?!".) So the episode was pretty much all re-written, introducing the bingo and were-skunk/Ribgy-transforming elements. Some of my lines were re-purposed and a lot of my drawings were used. But I still like this original version, especially cause I was able to inject some Black Snake Moan into the story, and for the nice Margaret/Mordecai moments. Overall it was more about Ribgy acting like a jerk because he thought everyone hated him because of the smell, but really everyone was trying to be cool about it. Enjoy?

Regular Show - "Mordecai & the Rigbys"

This episode of Regular Show aired last week. I wrote and storyboarded it with Shion Takeuchi. This is an earlier storyboard version that contains more/different jokes and a couple of cool different scenes that had to be cut. There was some funny stuff in this version that I was proud of and missed in the final, but what can you do. Enjoy!

UPDATE: I also wrote the songs that were featured in this episode and I thought they were going to be re-recorded by the composers, but they just kept my versions in. I just recorded everything in my apartment playing the different parts and threw a drum loop on there. Also both these songs are extended versions because the versions in the final episode had to be cut down for time.

"A Day Without Laughter" was written and storyboard by me and Somvilay Xayaphone based on a story by Steve Little. It was very different in its first inception, but it was changed a bunch after we turned it in. (I think somebody didn't like that it was about protesting or something.) So they pretty much changed the whole story, but left some of the details from our board in. The awesome Benton Connor reboarded the rest but didn't receive credit.

So, good or bad, here's the original version. Enjoy!

Tune in to Cartoon Network Monday May 3, at 8:30pm for a new episode of the Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack!! It's called "Lost at Land" and was written and storyboarded by me and Somvilay Xayaphone.

"Lost at Land" was the last episode Somvilay and I boarded for the Second Season, and the 10th in a row! They're airing it out of order though because our 9th episode turned in a special and our 8th episode turned into a hysterical nightmare! So stay tuned for those!

It's a pretty cool episode and it felt different to me because it doesn't take place in Stormalong, and most of it isn't at sea. And I tried to play up the epic beauty and serenity of this new land.

I haven't done this in a while, but here are some extra scenes that were cut for time:

Well, this first bit was actually just changed because for some reason we couldn't imply that they had eaten horse poop. But what we changed it to isn't really much different. But I really like this version cause it's more jokey!

This bit was cut for time when Flapjack imitates K'nuckles and falls down the hill. I Just wanted to show Flap and K'nuckles having some plain 'ol fun.

More of them just having fun in the new land.

And finally this scene played into the storyline that K'nuckles wants to be remembered after he dies, but it only comes up if he thinks he's gonna die that moment. When Flap confronts him about it, he brushes it off. But then later in the episode it resurfaces. It'll make sense if you watch the episode.

Actually, the whole half hour is ours because I think they're replaying "Fancy Pants" right after. So check that out if you haven't seen it.

UPDATE: Here are some design sketches Done by our character designer Thaddeus Couldron. It's for a new character Baron Berzerker, who's a crazy, badass, escaped convict, lunatic. He whipped these up before we started the board.

Then I took what I liked from each of them, and combined them into the design below, which we used for the board.

I caught a peek of the finished episode, and they cut a lot of stuff for time, but here are some snippets below.

As usual, here are some scraps of my parts that were cut for one reason or another.

My third episode of the Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack called "Fancy Pants" aired last night, and will repeat this Sunday Aug. 30 at 11am and 2pm. (And will probably be up on iTunes soon) I wrote and storyboarded it will my pal Somvilay. Check it out!
I came up with this character Mr. Pants, and tried to model him after John Cleese in Faulty Towers.

And in this episode K'nuckles grows fairly large, so here some sketches trying to explore his design as a large, obese man. We settled on the very last one.

Here are some scenes that were cut for time. Flap and K'nuckles right after leaving the Candy Barrel after learning of the VIP section.

Originally, Mr. Pants laughed in their faces for hours and hours.

He does a slow clap when they succeed.

And then he backs out of the scene.

Drinky Crow Part 2 - "Elephant Man"

Hey everybody, the second episode of The Drinky Crow Show that I storyboarded airs tonight, Jan. 4 at 12:15 am on Adult Swim (Cartoon Network). The episode is called "Elephant Man," and is about, well, the Elephant Man of course! It was written by Eric Kaplan, is part friendship story, part medical drama, and part television commentary. I haven't even seen the completed episode myself, so I'm excited to see how it turned out.

Hey everyone! I'm in a charity auction art show that's tonight in Pasadena. The theme is 80's kids movies and there will be a screening of Goonies at the historic Rialto Theater.

The charity we are working to help is Donorschoose.org, they provide materials to needing classrooms. In this case, we are concentrating on classroom in Southern California that need art supplies. We are trying to help the next generation of artists! We need your help, and they all need our help! For my painting I chose The NeverEnding Story. And, if you seen the movie, you know that one of the sadness scenes is where Atreyu's horse Atrax dies in the Swamps of Sadness. But I didn't want to paint such a gut-wrenching scene, so I painted them right before, when they're walking through the swamp. Above is my first rough thumbnail for the painting.

And here is the color comp the I drew to size in Photoshop. I also nailed down the composition a bit more.

Here is the final drawing based off the color comp. Noticed I used some post-its to redraw the characters. I didn't get it right the first time.

And here's the final painting! It's 15x7 and painted in Cel Vinyl on illustration board. I am quite happy how it turned out!

And finally my girlfriend Kellie Smith made a Falkor wool plush. He's about 15 inches long!!! Pretty awesome!!!

It's time for another I am 8-bit art show!!!! It's tomorrow night at the World of Wonder storefront Gallery, 6650 Hollywood Blvd. in Los Angeles.

I collaborated with my girlfriend Kellie Smith to make a Luigi plush. Well, it's more of a wool sculpture because the whole things made of wool! Nothing is sewn except for the arms and legs to the body. It's a crazy process where you stab some wool with barbed needles to get it to knot itself. And you sculpt the shapes you want and knot them together. It takes a really, really long time.

He's about 9 inches tall, but doesn't stand really well except when leaning against something.
Here he is in progress. Kellie made the whole thing with me helping a bit. She worked off some drawings I did, and I tried to direct her to get it as close as she could. I think it turned out awesome!

PART 2

For my painting this year, I decided to tackle one of my favorite games growing up, Bubble Bobble! My brother and I used to play this nonstop. Above is the final painting, 5x7, done in cel vinyl on illustration board.

CARANDIRU

I watched this awesome film Carandiru at my friend Jorge's place last night. It's a prison movie from Brazil that came out around the same time as City of God, but didn't get as much attention. It's about a doctor that goes to work at this severely overcrowded prison. He learns about the inmates and their stories of how they got there are shown to us. In the end the tension inside the prison wheals up and explodes in a riot which causes police to come and kill over 100 inmates. Oh, and it's all a true story, and it was filmed in the actual prison, right before they demolished it.

So i did some drawings of the characters while watching the film. Check them out! And yes, those are the characters real names.

(The only picture of Beard I could find, but under that bandanna he's got some crazy hair!)

Hmm, on IMDB this character's name is "No Way", but in the subtitles it was "Too Bad."

My sister gave me this brochure for the zoo next to where she lives in Utah, and it's AWESOME!! Check out these illustrations! She also said that all the signage inside the zoo and leading up to it have these kind of illustrations on it.

It doesn't say who the illustrator is, so if anyone knows, let me know! It kind of reminds me of Dan Krall, but who knows...

This guy's the "Ghost of the Bayou" and it's a real white alligator that they have at the zoo!

I went to eat at one of my favorite places yesterday, India Sweets & Spices. It's a big market, but there's a cafeteria attached that serves amazing vegetarian food. They also have a bigscreen tv that cycles through awesome Bollywood movies. I drew this guy in my sketchbook while eating lunch.

TTPH - Process

It's Tuesday and there's a brand new Through the Port-Hole strip up at Dumm Comics! I thought I'd post the roughs that led to this comic, and show a little of my process.

First comes the initial idea thumbnailed out in my sketchbook. In this stage I don't really worry about the composition of the whole strip, but just quick poses and shot ideas. I didn't even have a payoff drawing in the thumbnail.
The second step, which I'm cutting out more and more as I progress with the strip, is redrawing the panels on paper with pencil. I focus more on the layout of the whole page or strip. I actually ended up reorder some drawings on this one because I knew what poses I wanted, but wasn't necessarily set on what the dialogue would be. It sounds kind of backwards I know, but it works for me. Dialogue almost always comes last.
This third step shows how I hone in on a drawing digitally in Photoshop. I start with the initial idea and attempt to make a good drawing. But then I explore new ways to make the idea clearer, or the silhouette better, etc. And for this example, I just tried to push it more and more until I came up with a totally different drawing that what I originated with.

And Step Four, go check out the final inked comic!!!

It's hard sometimes when you're used to storyboarding and posing every single action out. But I think I'm learning to be more precise as I go along.

After secretly slaving away for the past 3 months, Dumm Comics is finally here!

Dumm Comics is a new independent website devoted to the comics of me and my friends. Contributing to the site are Gabe Swarr, myself, Katie Rice, Luke Cormican, Ricky Garduno, and Fred Osmond. The site will be uploaded everyday with new comic from one of the contributing artists. And of course it wouldn't be possible without the help of our pal Matt Gadbois who's building the whole site.

My new comic "Through the Port-Hole" follows the everyday adventures of an old sea captain as he roams the open seas. It's my first comic and it's been tons of hard work, but really fun! And that's the whole point of the site; to be able to have the freedom to create whatever we want.

Here's a rough from my first strip as just a taste. But you'll have to go to the site to see the whole page!

So go check out Dumm Comics and let us know what you think. This first week all 5 comics are up, but next week the daily updates will begin. We've been working 3 months ahead so there will never be a lull in the updates. So check the site everyday for something new!

Here's a short sequence that was cut from an upcoming episode of El Tigre. It's a pivotal point in the story where Manny and Frida are going to abandon their friend in the desert, but they get lost, and he ends up saving their lives.

We spend a fair amount of time on them abandoning him but completely gloss over the getting lost and saving of lives. It wasn't in the script. Well, it was insinuated that it took place with a single line of dialogue, but I wanted to actually show it happening. I tried to make it as epic but short as I could. Everyone agreed that it made the story stronger, but alas, it was eventually cut for time.

We tried to fill these Tigre episodes with so much awesomeness that they should've been 22min episodes instead of 11min. And the 22min episodes we did do maybe should've been hour-longs. I don't know if the final episode will even air now, but hopefully it does.

El Tigre Storyboard Promo

So, I've been storyboarding for a couple of months now on El Tigre and it has been the hardest, but most rewarding job I've had. I just finished my third episode and am getting used to pitching in front of everybody. But a while back on my first board, on my first thumbnail pitch, Nickelodeon decided they wanted to shoot a promo of it. I'm pretty sure it had nothing to do with me, but I just happened to be the next board artist in the rotation to pitch. To pitch my first board to a full camera crew along with supervising crew members was nerve-racking to say the least. But somehow I got through it, and it turned out pretty well.

Above is the full promo that they edited. It's interesting to see how they took a 45 min pitch and whittled it down to 30 seconds or less. Of course I find the edits to be pretty funny since I know which audio parts they cut and placed over other video parts. I even had to go into the recording booth weeks later to do some added v.o., so that was pretty cool. And even though it's kind of embarrassing to watch yourself pitch, I think it turned out great. The promo is airing right now on Nickelodeon, but I haven't caught it on tv yet.

El Tigre Animatic with Animation

Here's an excerpt from the animatic I did for an episode of El Tigre called "Yellow Pantera." I think it's one of my favorite episodes of the series so far. This episode deals with Manny calling his father a coward and really believing it. Harsh stuff. The board was so good on this one that it made me want to animate the whole thing! But, that's crazy, so I just did as many scenes as I could in the time I had. In this sequence, Manny goes off and tries to defeat Mal Verde, the meanest bandido off all time. Of course, he has no idea what he's getting himself into. It was boarded by Eddie Trigueros and directed by Dave Thomas. I did the timing, rough animation, sound effects, temp music, and timecode.

More El Tigre Animation

Here's another scene I animated for the El Tigre episode "El Tigre El Jefe." In this scene Sergio, who's a villainous kid wanting to seek revenge on Manny, is convincing the other kids of a plan to take Manny down. He starts to laugh crazily and then notices everyone looking at him. This is a case where the storyboard drawings where so good and funny that it made me want to animate the scene.

Here's the scene in animatic form. It was storyboarded by the amazing Eddie Trigueros. Eddie's drawings are always hilarious because they're so pushed.

Now here's the model for Sergio. Sometimes when you send a scene to be animated at a different studio, they can have a hard time interpreting the, dare I say it, "off-model" drawings form the storyboard. And Eddie's expressions were so funny that I didn't want them to get lost. So I humbly tried to capture his drawings while still making it look like the character.

" So, here's my interpretations of Eddie's drawings in animated form. I'm pretty happy with the way it came out, and Eddie seemed to like it as well. It was definitely fun and more challenging to animate. I added the finger motion in there just because it felt right.

I AM 8-Bit

The I Am 8-Bit show went up last night at Gallery 1988. It was jam-packed as usual, but they did a better job filtering people in and out of the gallery. The show was pretty amazing overall. Here are my two humble entries. The Burgertime painting is about 8x10 and the Mario/Luigi painting is like 21x10 or something like that. I really like how they turned out. If you get a chance, you should check out the show because there are some amazing pieces.

Here is some rough animation from El Tigre, the show I"m working on at Nickelodeon. One of the main parts of my job is timing and editing the animatics. This invloves a lot of work, but basically it's taking the storyboard and timing it out, adding dialogue, editing action sequences, adding sound effects and temp music, etc., to make a blueprint for the whole cartoon to send overseas to be animated. We do very tight animatics on El Tigre, trying to get the cartoon cut to exactly the right length. A lot of new poses are added, layouts by the amazing Fred Osmond are added, and sometimes whole sequences are re-boarded. So there is also a lot of drawing involved. The board is then slugged based on the animatic, which I think most studios don't do. Well I guess some people don't do animatics at all and would scoff at the idea. But I love it. It's like creating a new short film every other week! I say every other week because my buddy Aaron Horvath works on the other episodes.

Of course we go over the animatic with the director, Dave Thomas, and the assistant director, Gabe Swarr, and then it's off to the network for notes. But when it's all pretty much finished, I get to go in and animate some stuff, time permitting. I try to choose harder scenes that require more new drawings, or difficult angles, etc. Most of it is pretty rough and is used as a jump start for the overseas studio. Well, like I said in the beginning, here are some quick clips.

As you can see, a lot of the scenes are pretty short. Even this run cycle above probably wasn't on screen for one and a half cycles. This clip and the first girl running are from "Enter the Cuervo", storyboarded by Ricky Garduno.

Happy New Year! One of my resolutions is to get this blog back up and running. I've been pretty busy lately working on the awesome El Tigre, and we're not slowing down anytime soon. But hopefully I can devote more time this year to working on my personal projects as well. In the meantime...

Here's another commercial I worked on for ACME Filmworks. It was again directed by Dave Wasson, and story boarded by Gabe Swarr. I did layouts, color, and all of the animation. Color gave us the most headache because of what the client wanted. They wanted to add a bunch of yellow, which Dave and I thought detracted from the characters and the crackers and vegetables. The end result isn't bad, but I'm more fond of my original color choices. Most of it flys by so fast anyways. Here are some stills of the original colors.

Shh! It's a Secret Commercial

Here's the first commercial I worked on, again produced through ACME Filmworks. It's from about a year and a half ago in Feb. '05. It was directed by Dave Wasson, storyboarded by Gabe Swarr, with animation by me, Aaron Horvath, Tony Mora, and Pong Carlos. I forget who did the layouts, so if anyone knows, lemme know. I animated the last two sections, Tropical and Vanilla, as well as comping the whole piece together and adding transitions and titles and whatnot. Aaron Horvath animated the first part, Rose. Tony Mora animated the second part, Peach. And I forget what Pong Carlos animated. The end dancing maybe? Or maybe that was Aaron too. I was quite a lot of work to be doing on top of a fulltime job. Getting the sparkles right was a feat in itself. But I think it turned out pretty good. Also, I was a nerd and made all the stars in the beginning shots accent to the beat of the bassline in the song. You gotta look closely for that though. Oh yeah, and the dialouge audio is scratch and not the final. We did some 15 sec. spots as well, which I'll post soon.

Commercial Animation

Here's a Wheat Thins commercial I worked on at the beginning of the year. It was directed by Dave Wasson, with layouts by Shag, and animation and everything else by me. It's a pretty simple piece, but it was fun to make. This was produced through ACME Filmworks, and they were great. But, as I usually found working on commercials, the Ad agency who hired ACME was a different story. The Wheat Thins box is yellow, and yet they demanded that the thought cloud be yellow as well. Now you can't even see the box, and the girl's skin color gets lost as well. But, I've learned that you have to pick your battles. Dave and I actually had to cut his spot in half and make a 15 sec. version, which is the one that aired. But we like this version way better. Oh yeah, Dave voices the guy, and Brooke Cadorette is the narrator. More commercial posts coming soon!

The Walker

If you live in or around SilverLake in Los Angeles, then you should know who this is. He is The Walker. No matter what day of the week, or time of day, you have about an 85%-90% chance of seeing this man walking around. He is an older man probably in his 50's with skin that looks like leather. He wears short purple shorts ( he used to wear red, but I'm guessing they just got too worn out) and is usually reading a giant newspaper. Yes, reading while walking. Or he's on his cellphone. The rumor around my circle of friends is that he's a doctor who's on call, which is why you can see him walking in the middle of the day, 7 in the morning, or, no joke, 12 at night. If anyone has more insight into who this man is, let me know.

Argentina Drawings 2 - People

Well here are the last batch of drawings from my trip to Argentina. I seem to only find time to upload stuff on the weekends, so my posts usually end up being filled with a lot of drawings. I think it might be better to post just one a day, but I guess I just don't have the time during the week. Oh well. During my trip I was either on the go or eating great food with family. So most of my drawings are during lunches, dinners, and coffee breaks. Above is my uncle Hernan. He has a real distinctive looking face, so it was really fun to draw him.
I did this more caricatured one right after the first drawing. I found it a lot easier to caricature someone after trying to draw them realistically first, so I started doing it more as you'll see.

And finally here's another of Maria Sol gulping down a Submarino after school. A Submarino is basically chocolate milk, but they serve you hot milk and some chocolate bars, and you mix them together. You can get them almost everywhere. The don't make ones with soy milk, but I remember them being exquisite went I was there 10 years ago.

Here's a selection of drawings from my sketchbook when I was in Argentina. The airport is a great place to sketch. There are people every which way doing all sorts of things. Okay, most of them are mainly just waiting around, but that makes them easier to draw.

I've already mentioned my love for the architecture down there, so here's a little unfinished sketch.

Buenos Aires and Back

Hey everybody! It's been a while since I've updated, but a lot has been going on. I got back from Argentina 2 weeks ago, and have been super busy at my new work on the awesome El Tigre at Nickelodeon. Also the phenomenon known as ComicCon took place. But for now, here's a look back at my incredible trip! I was in Buenos Aires for about 2 and a half weeks with a 4 day trip to Las Cataratas del Iguazu (which is on the border of Argentina, Brasil, and Paraguay). I literally took over a 1000 photos, digital and film combined, so believe me when I say this is just a small sample of shots. These are some of my favorites that aren't just of my mom and I (who I traveled with).
Buenos Aires is an amazing, humungous, city in the vein of New York or Paris. It's very European compared to the rest of South America. Wow, this sounds like a book report or something. It was hard being a vegan in a country known for it's amazing beef, but I managed to eat quite well thanks to my aunt who cooked a lot of great food for me.

I absolutely love the architecture in Buenos Aires, from the awesome houses to the giant buildings downtown. The houses all had huge, decorative doors, as pictured above and below. In the photo above is my uncle and cousin. My uncle's around 6'4" and he looks tiny compared to that door! Below are some strangers who also look tiny.

In combination with the doors, most houses also had some sort of balcony with equally ornate structure.

Above is a kiosko. There was one on every block pretty much. You can buy magazines of course, but also dvds, candy, books, etc. depending of which one you went to.
A nice shot of my other uncle braving the Buenos Aires traffic. I've never seen such insane driving in my life. There are no stop signs and most of the main streets which span 4 or 5 lanes, don't have painted lane lines at all! But I like how they have a second yellow traffic light after the red and before turning to green.
Above is a panoramic view of the waterfalls in Iguazu. The main big one on the left is called La Garganta del Diablo, or the Devil's Throat. On the left side of the river is Brasil and on the right, Argentina. It was amazingly beautiful walking through the jungle here. The birds above live on the rock walls behind the huge waterfalls. Apparently their feet are hooked in a way where they can cling to the wall, but they cannot perch on a branch. At least that's what the guide told us.

And finally, I just noticed this shot when sifting through all my photos. The train tracks run directly into the setting sun. Pretty awesome considering I took it from a moving car.

Hey everybody! Sorry for the lack of posts latelty. But this time I have a fairly good excuse. I'm in Argentina right now visiting family and such and having a grand ol time. I'm taking lots of photos and trying to draw a lot, so I'll have plenty to post when i come back in 2 weeks (3 weeks total). I'm also finding some great books and old comics that I'll have to share as well. ¡Chau!

The Devil Made Me Do It!

Well well well... Look who comes crawling back. It's me! Sorry for the lack of posts everyone, like you've been really concerned about that. The last couple of weeks have been pretty hectic for me and it's going to get even more hectic in the next month. I'm so close to finishing up a commercial that I've been working on for the last 5 weeks, then I'm moving to a new apt. Fun huh? Then I have another freelance gig right away ( I hope I can get my computer set up in time!) And then the kicker, the week after, I'm going to Argentina for 3 weeks. And the day after I get back into the country, I start a new full-time job. Oh man, it's been and is going to be busy busy busy. Also, I was committed to do a piece for a Devil art show commemorating 6.6.06. So I had to squeeze time in somewhere to do that, and this is what came out. Creepy huh? This was nerve-racking and fun to do at the same time. I usually have drawings I go off of, but for this piece I basically winged-it. And I actually like how it came out!

Cheetah Development

Whoa! This is a big post! OK, so here's a quick look at the development of the cheetah's design over the years. Again, it goes from earliest drawings at the top (a couple of years ago), to more recent ones (a few weeks ago). It's only a small sampling, because it would be ridiculous to post the hundreds of drawings that I have.
Suffice to say, the cheetah has been really tough to design. Maybe you're thinking that most of these drawings look the same, but to me there's a world of difference between each. I can draw a million times better than I could when I came up with the idea, so a lot of the early sketches are pretty bad. But every now and again I'd hit upon something charming, and I always look back and try to retain those qualities.

Another dilemma I have lies in the way I draw. I naturally draw really flat and growing up and throughout school I have been attracted to more flat, stylized designs. But recently within the last couple of years, I've begun to have a growing appreciation for more volumetric drawings trying to better my construction skills. And I'm realizing that the best stylized animation, like UPA, Tom Oreb, or Ed Benedict, is based on solid construction. So recently I've been trying to construct my drawings all the while trying to keep nice, graphic qualities. It certainly aint easy.
Man, these are bunch of weird doodles. Here's something interesting. Look at the above drawing, paying close attention to the dude in the bottom left corner. Now CLICK THIS. It's a drawing from a couple of months back. And look, there's even another cheetah to compare!

This is drawn on a white paper bag. I drew it while I was working at Roundtable Pizza. I didn't want to work there forever, so of course I snuck in some drawing time whenever I could.
I don't like looking at these green ones, but they're part of the process.

Pants, or no pants?
As weird as it may seem, these were some great breakthrough drawings for me.
Here' s a doodle based off of some drawings Fred Osmond did for me. That's always a good way to get some new ideas, describe your character and ask a friend to interpret them.
M. Sasek anyone? Oh how I love his books. He's a huge influence on me as well as this film. Also Ronald Searle!! I can't get enough!

And finally the most recent versions. I only recently returned to the idea that he would be introduced as a regular cheetah, so it's been tricky trying to get a design that both works on four legs as well as two. I'll probably just cheat it anyways from scene to scene.
I guess I still haven't even touched upon trying to make the design look like an actual cheetah. That's a whole other issue. How cartoony do I want to go? Can I get away with a slightly different headshape than a real cheetah? Should I stay true to the animal? I mean, Chester Cheetah doesn't even look anything like a real cheetah, but people still buy it, right? But a cheetah's features and body shape are so distinct! I constantly ask myself these types of questions. I guess it's just part of the process. Oh yeah, and as for animating all those spots? We'll have to wait and see how that goes. But computers can make that sort of thing easier these days... hopefully.

The I Am 8-Bit art show opening at Gallery 1988 was last night and it was a blast! So many people showed up and there was a line out the door the entire night. There was so much great artwork, it was insane. Here are the two pieces I contributed. Above is Mario, and below is Luigi, of course. Don't be confused by these thumbnails though, the Luigi piece was actually much bigger than the Mario one. Which do you like better and why? I was asking people all night and everyone had a different answer. This question started because at first, the gallery was only going to be able to fit one piece, and Jon Gibson, the curator, picked the Luigi one because he felt it was stronger. But to my luck, when I showed up at the show, they were both up! So thanks again Jon! I think the show's up for a month, so get yourself to the gallery and check out all the amazing artwork.
